Agartala, 20th August 2025 : A 15-year-old student from Jamia Madania Darul Uloom Madrasa in North Rautkhala, Bishalgarh, is currently in critical condition at GBP Hospital in Agartala following an alleged suicide attempt. The incident has sparked renewed outrage and concern, especially given the madrasa’s history—two years back, a student reportedly died under mysterious circumstances at the same institution.
Hospital sources informed that the Class VII student was first brought to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital in a severely distressed state this morning. Due to the gravity of his condition, he was immediately referred to GBP Hospital. Dr. Shirsendu Dhar, head of the emergency department at GBP, confirmed that the boy had attempted suicide by hanging and remains in a life-threatening condition.
However, the madrasa authorities have categorically denied the incident, prompting allegations of a deliberate cover-up. Journalists who attempted to visit the madrasa were reportedly locked out, with the main gate shut from inside.
Medical staff at Bishalgarh Hospital told reporters that the boy had tried to take his own life, but the madrasa administration has offered no explanation. This has raised serious questions about transparency and accountability, especially in light of the previous death at the same institution.
Local sources allege that multiple students have faced mistreatment at the hands of madrasa staff, including a senior religious figure. These claims, if substantiated, could point to a disturbing pattern of abuse and neglect.
