Agartala, 21st January 2026: Under Mission Sankalp, an initiative aimed at the eradication of Child Marriage and Teenage Pregnancy and in support of Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat, a Meeting-cum-Workshop with Religious Leaders and Marriage Solemnizers was held in Sepahijala. The programme was organized by the District Administration, Sepahijala, in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Sepahijala.
The programme began with a welcome address by Uttam Kumar Das, DISE, Sepahijala, who explained the objectives of Mission Sankalp and highlighted the important role of religious leaders and marriage solemnizers in preventing child marriage.
This was followed by a speech from Md. Reaj, ICDS Supervisor, who spoke about the harmful effects of teenage pregnancy on the health and well-being of young girls and emphasized the need for awareness and timely intervention.
The Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl. SP) addressed the participants and explained the legal provisions related to child marriage, stressing the responsibility of all concerned to follow the law and report any cases of underage marriage.
The programme was also addressed by Dr. S. S. Jaiswal, District Magistrate & Collector, Sepahijala, who emphasized the collective responsibility of the administration, religious leaders, and society to protect children’s rights and ensure their education, health, and safe future.
During the programme, all participants took a pledge to actively support the prevention of child marriage and teenage pregnancy.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), Sepahijala, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, religious leaders, and officials for their participation and support.
A total of 81 participants, including religious leaders, marriage solemnizers, and officials from different departments, attended the programme, making it a meaningful step towards achieving the goals of Mission Sankalp and Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat in Sepahijala District.
