Agartala, 8th March 2025 :  MLA Birajit Sinha along with District Congress President and Vice-Chairman of Gournagar Panchayat Samiti Md Badruzzaman and Congress leader Chandrasekhar Sinha visited the Manu River embankment in Durgapur to assess ongoing construction work.

During the inspection, the team observed that the progress of the embankment work was significantly slow. The contractor assigned to the project was using only a limited number of vehicles to transport soil, leading to minimal reinforcement of the embankment thus far. The slow pace raised concerns, particularly regarding the section of the embankment that collapsed in 2018, causing severe floods in Kailashahar.

Expressing dissatisfaction, Sinha emphasized the urgent need to deploy additional vehicles to accelerate the work. Following the inspection, the legislator and accompanying officials presented their concerns to the Executive Engineer of the Water Resources Department.

They urged the department to ensure that the contractor increases the number of vehicles used in the construction process, citing the approaching monsoon season as a critical deadline for completion. Additionally, they highlighted the poor quality of work done so far on the embankment and stressed the necessity for immediate improvements to prevent future disasters.
