Agartala, 6th January 2025 : : Engineer Abhi Pal sustained serious injuries during a mob attack while inspecting construction work. In response, the State Engineers’ Association of Tripura has lodged a formal deputation with the District Magistrate of North Tripura district calling for the swift arrest of those responsible.
Engineer Abhi Pal’s ordeal took place on December 31, while he was overseeing the construction of a steel bridge in Ward Number 4 under the Jubarajnagar assembly constituency. A group of miscreants launched a violent attack on him. Following the harrowing incident, Engineer Abhi Pal filed a case against four individuals at Dharmanagar Police Station: Aamir Uddin, Langtara Bibi, Habiba Begum and Subal Debnath. Reportedly, these accused are active workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
“It is unacceptable that the accused remain at large. We demand immediate action against those involved in this heinous act. Justice must be served,” said a member of the Association.
Despite Engineer Pal’s report, the police have yet to apprehend any of the accused. Concerns are mounting among the engineers regarding the police’s lack of progress, attributing it to potential political interference. They allege that the Dharmanagar police are hesitant to act decisively due to the political clout of the accused.
In their deputation today, the engineers urged District Magistrate Debapriya Bardhan to ensure prompt and effective action. District Magistrate Bardhan assured them that he would take the matter seriously and pursue the necessary steps to address their concerns.
“We will look into this matter with utmost seriousness. “The safety and justice for all citizens are our top priorities,” stated District Magistrate Bardhan.
The incident has ignited a broader discussion on governance and the rule of law within the community. As the engineers continue their protest, many are left wondering if justice will prevail. Only time will reveal the outcome of this pressing issue.
