Agartala, 17th August 2024: Moderate rains have caused significant disruption in public life across Tripura since Saturday morning. According to the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall was recorded in Sabroom, South Tripura district at 69 mm while the lowest was at AD Nagar with 0.2 mm.
The Met Office has issued an orange alert for South Tripura district warning of thunder, lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours. A yellow alert has been issued for all other districts in the state for the same period.
The sky remained overcast throughout the day, with continuous rainfall impacting daily activities. The maximum temperature recorded today was 32°C, while the minimum was 26.2°C, which is close to normal for this time of year.
Detailed rainfall data from the Meteorological Department indicates varied precipitation across the state: West Tripura District: AD Nagar (0.2 mm), Bodhjungnagar (0.5 mm), DM Office (0.5 mm), Secretariat (4.5 mm); Sepahijala District: Sonamura (8 mm), Bishramganj (5 mm); Khowai District: Khowai (3.4 mm), Teliamura (3 mm); Gomati District: Udaipur (6.2 mm), Amarpur (29.2 mm), Karbook (15.1 mm), Kakraban (3.6 mm); South Tripura District: Belonia (52 mm), Sabroom (69 mm), Bagafa (18 mm); North Tripura District: Panisagar (7.2 mm), Kanchanpur (36.2 mm), Kadamtala (60.8 mm), Nabunbazar (12.6 mm); Unakoti District: Kumarghat (55 mm), Kailashahar (7.4 mm); and Dhalai District: Gandacherra (28 mm), Kamalpur (56 mm), Manughat (37.4 mm)
The continuous rainfall has significantly affected transportation and daily activities, with many areas experiencing waterlogging and traffic disruptions. Residents are advised to stay indoors and take necessary precautions as the state braces for more rain in the coming hours.
