Agartala, December 22:  Mayor Dipak Majumdar on Friday announced that an advanced drainage project is currently in progress to protect residents from the mosquito menace, which is exacerbated by water accumulation in certain areas of the city. Mayor Majumdar expressed this during a face-to-face interaction with journalists, highlighting the city’s beautification initiatives, improvements in various civic services, and the development of new infrastructure.

According to Mayor Majumdar, the drainage work in the Katakhal area on Akhaura Road commenced in January 2019. The construction of modern drains has been underway for an extended period, and the project is nearing completion. He explained that the increased mosquito problem in the city is due to water stagnation, and the ongoing drainage work aims to address this issue effectively.

Mayor Majumdar further stated that specific instructions have been given to the appointed contractors for the drainage project to ensure that water does not accumulate and becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Once the drainage construction is complete, it is anticipated that residents will experience relief from the mosquito menace in the city.

This initiative aligns with the municipality’s multifaceted planning, focusing on urban development, civic amenities, and strategic infrastructure to enhance the overall quality of life for Agartala’s residents. The Mayor remains optimistic that the modern drainage system will significantly contribute to mitigating the mosquito-related challenges faced by the city’s populace.
