Mohanpur Anganwadi Kendra cries for attention amid years of neglect

Agartala, 28th February 2026 :    The Anganwadi Kendra at Mohanpur village under the Kamalpur subdivision has turned into a stark symbol of neglect, raising serious concerns about child safety and basic facilities meant for early education and nutrition.

For the past two years, not a single drop of drinking water has flowed from the centre’s tap. The absence of safe drinking water in an institution meant for young children has not only caused daily hardship but has also emerged as a major health risk. Parents allege that despite repeated complaints, the issue remains unresolved.

Adding to the woes, the Anganwadi Kendra has no boundary wall. Located close to a road, the open premises expose children to constant danger, forcing parents to send their children in fear every day. The sense of insecurity has created deep anxiety among families in the village.

The infrastructure condition is equally alarming. The classroom ceiling has remained broken and unprotected for a long time. During the monsoon season, rainwater leaks into the classroom, disrupting activities, while in summer, children suffer due to extreme heat. Such conditions, residents say, are severely hampering the learning environment.

Locals claim that the problems have been brought to the notice of the concerned Panchayat on several occasions, but no effective steps have been taken so far. The continued inaction has sparked allegations of administrative apathy towards the welfare of children under the Integrated Child Development Services scheme.

Residents of Mohanpur have now demanded immediate intervention by the administration to ensure drinking water, proper infrastructure, and security at the centre in Kamalpur. They warned that continued neglect of such vital institutions amounts to endangering the future of an entire generation.
