Agartala, 16th October 2025: A 30-year-old woman named Shahana Akhter was allegedly subjected to a brutal assault by her husband Jasim Mia in the Kaichcha Khola ADC Village under Jatrapur police station. The incident has shocked residents of the Dhanpur assembly constituency took place early this morning when Jasim, reportedly under the influence of intoxicants, violently beat his wife until she lost consciousness.
Neighbours informed that Jasim then used a sharp machete to cut off Shahana’s hair and publicly displayed the act to neighbours. The disturbing scene prompted immediate outrage among family members and locals, who attempted to restrain the accused.
News of the assault quickly reached Shahana’s parental home in Purba Paharpur Panchayat, also under Jatrapur police station. Her father Jamal Uddin rushed to the scene with others and transported his unconscious daughter to Kathalia Community Health Centre for initial treatment. Following medical attention, he filed a formal complaint at Jatrapur police station, demanding protection for his daughter and legal action against Jasim.
Sources reveal that Shahana and Jasim were married 12 years ago through social arrangements and have three children. Over the years, Shahana allegedly faced repeated mental and physical abuse, particularly after Jasim began pressuring her to bring money from her parental home. Despite Jamal Uddin providing financial assistance on multiple occasions, the abuse reportedly escalated in the past two years, with Jasim demanding Rs 1 lakh and resorting to beatings when denied.
Today’s incident marks one of the most inhumane domestic violence cases reported in the region in recent memory. Police have launched an investigation, and the locality now awaits decisive action to ensure justice and safety for the victim.
