Agartala, 21st April 2025: Tripura’s Lok Sabha MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb met Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Monday, pressing for urgent infrastructure interventions across four major roadways in the state.
Among the key demands was the immediate repair and maintenance of a critical stretch of National Highway-08—from Churaibari to Panitilla in North Tripura. NH-08 serves as Tripura’s lifeline, connecting it to the rest of India via Assam.
In a Facebook post, Deb wrote, “Today, I met Honourable Union Minister Nitin Gadkari ji and discussed four key highway-related issues. Foremost among them is the urgent repair of the Churaibari to Panitilla stretch of NH-8, which needs completion on a priority basis.”
He also raised the demand for upgrading the Udaipur–Phulkumari (NH-8) to Amarpur (NH-208) corridor in Gomati district, widening the road from Ranibazar Fire Service to Agartala ISBT to four lanes with service roads in West Tripura, and declaring the 148-km-long Kamalpur–Shantik Bazar route—via Ambassa, Gandacherra, and Amarpur—as a National Highway.
Deb added that Gadkari acknowledged the urgency of the proposals and assured appropriate action at the earliest.
