Agartala, 3rd December 2025: Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb has reiterated his demand for upgrading Agartala’s MBB Airport to an international airport. He raised the issue today in the Parliament, urging the Union Minister of Civil Aviation to expedite the process.
Speaking in the House, Deb highlighted that Agartala serves as a crucial gateway for passengers traveling to and from the Northeast. According to available data, the airport has the capacity to handle 1,000 domestic and 200 international passengers during peak hours. It is equipped with 20 check-in counters and can manage up to 3 million passengers annually.
Deb also informed Parliament that the Tripura government has already provided ₹18.85 crore to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to facilitate the initiation of international flight operations.
He urged the Civil Aviation Minister to coordinate with the Ministry of Home Affairs for the early notification of an immigration check-post at MBB Airport and to prioritize the formal declaration of the airport as an international airport.
