Agartala, 20th April 2025: Former Chief Minister & incumbent Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb revisited the ‘Smritivan’ project site on Saturday, a program he launched during his tenure in 2020 under the Chief Minister’s Model Village scheme. The project, which spans four locations across the state, encourages citizens to plant trees in memory of their ancestors or loved ones, thereby accelerating the process of afforestation.
Reflecting on the project’s inception, Deb shared, “Planting a tree is not just an act of environmental preservation; it is a tribute to those who have shaped our lives. This initiative is close to my heart, as it allows us to connect with nature while cherishing the memories of our loved ones.”
The former Chief Minister personally planted a sapling in Borakhi (Patni) of Mandai in memory of his late father Hirudhan Deb, marking the beginning of this noble endeavor. During his visit today, he inspected the progress of the project and revisited the tree planted in his father’s memory, a poignant moment that underscored the emotional significance of the initiative.
Deb engaged in discussions with officials from the Forest Department and other stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of expanding the project’s reach. “This is not just a government initiative; it is a community effort. I urge local citizens to take ownership of this project, protect it, and nurture it as their own,” he stated.
To further inspire participation, Deb appealed to forest workers, government officials, and the general public to plant trees in memory of their loved ones. He stressed the need for heightened public awareness and collective action, saying, “The success of ‘Smritivan’ lies in the hands of the people. Together, we can create a greener, more sustainable future while honoring our past.”
