Agartala, 20th October 2026 : The mysterious deaths of two brothers on the night of Maha Ashtami have triggered tension in Dharmanagar, North Tripura. The father of the deceased has lodged a written complaint at Dharmanagar police station, alleging that the deaths may be linked to prior threats issued by Bijan Das, a resident of the Boakandi area, and others.
According to the complaint, the deceased, Shubhadip Roy Chowdhury and Jaydeep Roy Chowdhury, were residents of Ward No. 6 in West Dewanpasha village under Dharmanagar police station. Their bodies were recovered from the Boakandi area at around 9:30 pm on Monday.
Their father, Samiran Roy Chowdhury, alleged that the brothers had received death threats the previous night. At around 11:30 pm on Sunday, the two brothers reportedly went to the highway near Badshah Tilla, adjacent to the Dewanpasha Agrani Sangha and Boakandi areas, to help resolve a local dispute. During the incident, Bijan Das, son of Randhir Chandra Das of Boakandi, allegedly threatened to kill them.
The father further claimed that the brothers received several threatening phone calls from Monday morning onwards. Citing the alleged threats and the circumstances surrounding the deaths, he expressed suspicion that Bijan Das and his associates might have been involved. He has demanded an impartial investigation to uncover the truth and bring those responsible to justice.
Meanwhile, according to local sources, Bijan Das had allegedly prepared to launch an attack on Sunday night and had detained Bibek Bardhan in the disputed area. Bibek was subsequently rescued by his family members. The dispute reportedly arose over a financial transaction.
In a counter-allegation, the injured Bijan Das claimed that Bibek Bardhan, Akash Das and Bishal had severely beaten him.
Police have initiated an investigation based on the written complaint filed by Samiran Roy Chowdhury, the father of Shubhadip and Jaydeep.
Bijan Das is currently undergoing treatment at Dharmanagar District Hospital. Police are keeping him under close surveillance while he receives treatment. The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain under investigation, and the allegations have yet to be established.
