Mystery Surrounds Death of 28-Year-Old Educated Youth in Kumarghat; Police Silence Raises Questions

Date:

Agartala, 7th June 2026:  A mysterious death of a 28-year-old educated youth has sparked widespread concern in Kumarghat,  with questions mounting over the circumstances and the ongoing police investigation.

On June 5 evening, the body of Swagat Ghosh (also known as Sagar) was recovered from a water body in the Bhati Dudhpura area under Kumarghat police station limits. The deceased, a private home tutor, was highly qualified with degrees including M.Sc, B.Ed, and B.Sc. He originally hailed from Kanchanbari under Fatikroy police station.

Locals have expressed strong suspicion over the nature of the death, stating that the condition in which the body was found does not appear to indicate an accident or suicide. According to reports, the victim’s face and neck were found tied with cloth, and his body was allegedly bound with a rope along with a stone weighing approximately 10–15 kilograms. These circumstances have led sections of the community to suspect that it may be a premeditated murder.

The victim’s mother, Shipra Ghosh, has been devastated by the incident. Speaking to the media, she tearfully stated that her son was a calm and peaceful person with no known enmity. She expressed strong belief that her son was murdered and demanded justice. She has appealed to the Chief Minister to ensure a fair and thorough investigation and bring the truth to light.

Meanwhile, local residents have raised concerns over the lack of official communication from the police. While acknowledging that certain details may be withheld for investigative reasons, they argue that the absence of even a basic update on the progress of the case has led to growing public mistrust.

This incident, described by locals as unprecedented in the region, has drawn significant attention across the Unakoti district. Many are now questioning why no arrests have been made so far and whether any leads have emerged in the investigation.

Rumors and speculation have also circulated among some residents suggesting the possible involvement of influential individuals, though no official confirmation or evidence has been provided to support such claims.

As the investigation continues, the people of Kumarghat await answers. The central demand remains clear: a swift and transparent investigation to ensure justice for the deceased and closure for his grieving family.
