National Lok Adalat settles over 18,000 cases in Tripura

Agartala, 9th March 2024 :   The National Lok Adalat, a forum for alternative dispute resolution, held its session in various court premises of Tripura, including the High Court, on Saturday. The Lok Adalat took up a total of 18,253 cases for settlement in 43 benches, comprising 5,185 pre-litigation cases and 13,068 pending cases.

The cases included 377 motor accident compensation cases, 4,424 bank loan repayment cases, 761 telecom corporation unpaid bill disputes cases, 12,188 arbitrable criminal dispute cases, 270 matrimonial dispute cases, 154 check bounce cases, 5 employment related cases, 1 electricity bill related case and 73 civil related cases. A bench was also set up in the High Court, which disposed of 49 cases.

The maximum number of Lok Adalat benches, eight in total, were situated in Agartala court premises. A help desk was also arranged in the Lok Adalat premises to assist the citizens. Jhuma Datta Chowdhury, member secretary of Tripura State Legal Service Authority, briefed the reporters about the Lok Adalat today.
