Agartala, 12th July 2025: Incidents of theft are on the rise in Agartala, with gold ornaments, motorcycles and cash emerging as prime targets for local thieves. Over the past few days, three motorcycles and a gold chain were reported stolen from various parts of the city.
Following the registration of a case at NCC Police Station, investigations led to the recovery of the stolen bikes from Maharajganj Market, Mandan Nagar and Sonamura. In a separate operation, a gold chain was traced to the residence of one Puja Rani Das in the Gurkhabasti area of the capital city.
While police have successfully arrested three individuals in connection with the motorcycle thefts, Puja Rani Das remains at large. The arrested suspects were produced before the court, after which the recovered vehicles were returned to their rightful owners Biswajit Banik, Abhijit Tripura and Lalon Puiya, residents of Nandannagar and Bardowali.
NCC Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge confirmed the motorcycles were handed over as per court directives. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend Puja Rani Das, against whom charges have been filed under relevant legal provisions.
