Agartala, 25th September 2024:    Acting on a tip-off, a joint operation by the CRPF, BSR, and local police led to the destruction of nearly 52,000 ganja plants in two ADC villages within the reserved forest area. The operation, which began at 8 am, was confirmed by Jatrapur Police Station OC Subrata Debnath during a private meeting at noon.

The task force, comprising 35 soldiers, was led by CRPF’s Dhibar Singh, BSF’s Sushant Pal, and Jatrapur Police Inspector Arup Debbarma. The operation targeted large green areas in the Ulukhala Reserve Forest of Thali Bari Village, where 35,000 cannabis plants were cut down. Additionally, 17,000 ganja plants were destroyed in the eastern reserved forest area of Ledrabari village.

Despite the successful operation, questions have been raised about the role of the forest department. The Kathalia Forest Range Office, which operates alongside Jatrapur Police Station, has been criticized for its inaction. Ranger Babul and his team have been under scrutiny as locals express frustration over the recurring issue of illegal ganja plantations in protected forest areas.
