Agartala, 3rd January 2023:  In a determined stand against the proposed conversion of the historic grounds of Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan into a parking zone, students and alumni have rallied together to preserve the sanctity of the cherished space.

The sprawling field in front of the school, which has served as a hub for sports, exercise, and community gatherings for many years, is now under threat as the school management committee contemplates transforming it into a parking facility. Local youths and community members utilize the field for various activities, creating a vibrant and inclusive space.

The move to repurpose the field into a parking zone has been met with fierce opposition from the school’s current students and alumni, who are determined to protect the legacy of the grounds. Despite the influential political figures associated with the school, the identity of those seeking to profit from the conversion remains unknown.

Alarmed by the potential loss of a vital recreational space, a teenager practicing at the field expressed concern about the lack of alternatives for sports activities if the grounds are taken away. The impending under-fifteen cricket match, organized by the Tripura Cricket Association, adds urgency to the situation, as there are no nearby fields available for practice.

A student emphasized the cultural significance of the field, highlighting that the annual January 23rd procession begins from this very ground. Preserving this tradition has become a rallying point for the students who are unwilling to compromise on the cherished history associated with the school grounds.

Members of the Alumni Association have issued a resolute statement, vowing to make noise and raise awareness about the issue if necessary. Their collective commitment is clear: the school grounds will not be allowed to be transformed into a parking zone, and the students will continue to enjoy the freedom of the space for sports and cultural events.
