Agartala, 2nd February 2026 : Tripura’s healthcare system witnessed a significant milestone today as the Santiniketan Medical College and Hospital inaugurated its Indoor Patient Department (IPD) services. The launch marks a major step toward improving medical facilities in the state and fulfilling a long-standing demand of its people.
The inauguration ceremony began with a special puja held at the hospital premises, followed by the formal opening of the newly constructed, state-of-the-art IPD building. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Professor Dr. Sanjay Nath, Principal of Santiniketan Medical College and Hospital.
For years, residents of Tripura, especially those from rural and remote areas, had hoped for advanced indoor treatment facilities within the state. Many patients were previously forced to travel outside Tripura for specialized care. With the new IPD services, locals believe this hardship will be greatly reduced.
Speaking on the occasion, hospital chairman Malay Pit said, “Our goal is to ensure that every individual receives quality healthcare at an affordable cost. Establishing this hospital was driven by that vision. With the IPD now operational, we are committed to gradually opening all departments and making advanced treatment accessible to all.”
The hospital has already gained recognition for its humane approach through its OPD services, where patients can consult specialist doctors for just ₹10 (Monday to Saturday, from 9 a.m. onwards). Discounts on medicines and diagnostic tests have further benefited thousands of low-income and middle-class families across the state.
Looking ahead, Peet revealed ambitious plans: “With the support of the state government, this hospital will soon transform into a 1,100-bed super-specialty facility. A unique aspect of this project is that the entire hospital will be managed by women entrepreneurs—an unprecedented example of women’s empowerment in healthcare, not just in Tripura but possibly worldwide.”
Local residents expressed optimism, noting that the launch of the IPD is more than just the opening of a department—it represents a new era of medical security and trust for the people of Tripura.
The Santiniketan Medical College and Hospital’s initiative is expected to significantly strengthen the state’s healthcare infrastructure and provide a renewed sense of assurance for healthier lives.
