Agartala, 3rd January 2026: A delegation from the North East Youth Congress Committee visited the residence of Angel Chakma to meet his family and offer condolences. During the visit, Indian Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chhib spoke with Chakma’s father over a video call and prayed for the departed soul.
Senior leaders of the North East Youth Congress and several members of the Tripura State Youth Congress were part of the delegation. They assured the family that the Congress and Youth Congress would stand firmly by them in any need.
Speaking to reporters, Neelkamal Saha recalled that Angel Chakma, a promising tribal student from Machmara in Tripura’s Unakoti district, succumbed to injuries on December 26 while undergoing treatment. He had been critically injured in a brutal attack in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on December 9. His younger brother, Michael Chakma, was also seriously wounded in the incident.
Saha paid deep respect to the memory of Angel Chakma and expressed solidarity with his grieving family. He demanded that those responsible for such extremist Hindutva-driven violence be brought to justice under the strictest provisions of law.
