Agartala, 3rd January 2026:   In what officials describe as the largest anti-cannabis operation in Sepahijala district to date, police and security forces destroyed over 1.9 million cannabis plants spread across 650 acres of forest land today.

The operation was led by Additional Superintendent of Police Rajib Sutradhar, assisted by Sonamura Sub-Divisional Police Officer and local police officials.

Around 500 personnel from TSR and Border Security Force joined the drive, targeting plantations in Pashaniamura, Kalamchoura, and adjoining areas.

The raid lasted eight and a half hours, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., covering 130 plots.

Authorities confirmed this was the largest cannabis eradication campaign ever conducted in the district, leaving cultivators stunned. Police have vowed that no illegal plantation will be spared this year, signaling a zero-tolerance stance against cannabis cultivation in Sepahijala.
