Night guards accused of negligence as Madhupur School faces major theft

Agartala, 28th February 2026:   A shocking incident unfolded at Madhupur Higher Secondary School last night when a gang of thieves broke into the premises, smashing locks on 8 to 10 rooms, including the principal’s office, library, computer room, and kitchen. Valuable items were reportedly stolen, leaving the school staff and community in dismay.

Eyewitnesses and local sources revealed that the two appointed night guards, Nirmal Debbarma and Dhruba Saha, were not on duty during the break-in. In fact, the thieves even broke the lock of the very room where the guards usually sleep, raising serious questions about their presence that night. Allegations suggest the guards often neglect their duties, either sleeping inside the school or at home instead of patrolling.

Both guards have faced repeated complaints in the past for failing to perform night patrols. Despite this, they retained their positions due to political influence. Nirmal Debbarma is reportedly a ruling party booth president and related to a panchayat member, while Dhruba Saha also enjoys strong backing within the ruling party. Teachers and students have been reluctant to speak out against them, fearing repercussions.

This is not the first time Madhupur Higher Secondary School has suffered theft. In recent months, two separate incidents occurred, allegedly due to the guards’ negligence. The first case was reportedly suppressed by local political leaders, but Friday’s large-scale burglary has drawn public outrage.

Assistant Principal confirmed that a written complaint has been lodged with Madhupur Police Station. Authorities are investigating whether the guards were present and performing their duties. If negligence is proven, disciplinary action will be taken. The extent of the stolen property is still being assessed, as cupboards and computer rooms were found ransacked.
