Agartala, 30th December 2025: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that he wants the strictest punishment for the accused in the brutal murder case of Tripura student Anjel Chakma in Uttarakhand.
He informed that today, cheques of financial assistance provided by the Tripura government and the Uttarakhand government were handed over to the family members of late Anjel Chakma.
The Chief Minister said that no one’s life can be brought back with money.
“As soon as I got the news of the painful incident involving Anjel Chakma, I spoke to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. You all know that. I spoke to him yesterday as well. He announced financial assistance for the family of the deceased student on behalf of their government. We have also decided to provide financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh on behalf of the Tripura government. Today, our Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education, Tinku Roy, and Minister for Industries and Commerce, Santana Chakma, went to the house of the deceased student and handed over two cheques issued by the Uttarakhand government and the Tripura government to the family members,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that a delegation from the Chakma Student Organization met him yesterday.
“I listened to them. You know that if there is a problem anywhere, we take quick action. Earlier, you have seen that about 350 students were stuck in Manipur. We rescued them from there and brought them back to the state. If there is a problem anywhere, the state government extends a helping hand. Everyone will be there in happy times, but it is important who will be there in sad times. That is when everyone will remember,” he said.
Dr. Saha also said that he prayed for the peace of the soul of the deceased student, Anjel Chakma, and expressed his deepest condolences to his bereaved family.
“So far, the police have arrested five accused in this brutal murder. The other absconding accused will also be arrested quickly and brought to justice. I want the accused in this incident to be punished to the strictest possible extent,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that the family of the deceased student knows very well that the Tripura government, Uttarakhand government, and the central government are monitoring the whole matter seriously.
“So that no one does politics over this painful incident. I will only say that no one should ever do politics over a dead body. Now it is necessary to be with the family. It is necessary to sympathize with them in their hour of grief. It is necessary to pray for the peace of his soul. This is a very sad incident,” he added.
