Agartala, 15th October 2024: In response to escalating communal violence in Tripura’s North District, Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan has transferred North District Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhanupada Chakraborty to the Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Agartala.
The transfer follows an incident in Kadamtala, where a minor dispute over forced donations for Durga Puja spiraled into widespread communal unrest. The violence led to the vandalism of several shops and houses, as well as the tragic death of one person. An official order regarding the transfer stated: “Bhanupada Chakraborty, IPS, SP (North), Tripura, is hereby transferred to PHQ, Agartala, with immediate effect and until further notice. He is instructed to report to PHQ immediately.”
In the interim, Avinash Rai, IPS, currently serving as SP (Dhalai), Tripura, will oversee the duties of SP (North) in addition to his existing responsibilities until further orders.
