Agartala, 4th October 2025:  North Tripura Police have launched an intensive combing operation to arrest four notorious inmates who escaped from the Kalikapur Sub-Jail on the morning of Maha Navami. Out of the six fugitives, two have already been captured, while efforts are underway to locate the remaining four.

The escape has raised serious concerns about jail security, with initial reports pointing to negligence on the part of prison authorities. The six escapees are Nazim Uddin, Rahim Ali, Sunil Debbarma, Narayan Dutta, Rozan Ali, and Abdul Pata, all hardened criminals with records involving robbery, drug trafficking and other serious offenses.

Abdul Pata, a convicted drug offender, hails from Nilam Bazar in Assam’s Sribhumi district. Narayan Dutta, who was apprehended while attempting to flee to Bangladesh, is believed to be a Bangladeshi national. His arrest came on Thursday evening in the Bhungram Shyamli Para area, marking a significant breakthrough in the ongoing operation. Alongside him, local broker Prajesh Malakar was also detained for allegedly aiding his escape.

Earlier, Abdul Pata was captured from the West Chandrapur area during a joint operation involving North Tripura Police, the district intelligence unit, and the 97th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF).

Speaking to the media personnel, North Tripura Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai stated, “We are treating this incident with utmost seriousness. Two of the fugitives have been arrested, and special operations are underway to capture the remaining four. We are confident that they will soon be brought back under the law.”

To ensure public safety and expedite the search, security has been tightened across sensitive zones in the district. On Saturday, SP Avinash Rai, along with the Additional SP, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, intelligence officials, and a large BSF contingent, conducted extensive searches in multiple areas.

Authorities remain hopeful that, as in previous cases, they will successfully arrest the remaining fugitives and restore calm in the undivided northern district of Tripura.
