Agartala, 19th July 2025: In a rare incident of theft at Amtali ADC Village Committee Office Complex near the Bishramganj Fire Service station, unidentified miscreants broke into the office of the local village organization in the dead of night and looted property worth an estimated Rs 1.5 lakh.
The break-in took place late last night when the culprits forcibly opened the door of the women-led Self-Help Group’s office and ransacked the space. According to initial reports, the thieves smashed open a cabinet and fled with crucial documents along with various materials including electric fans, cement bags, plastic pipes, and iron rods.
The theft came to light early this morning when GRS Milon Debbarma arrived at the office and found the main door ajar with its lock broken. Alerted by the discovery, he promptly informed Village Secretary Anamika Das and SHG leaders Mira Debbarma, Pipasa Debbarma and Geeta Debbarma, all of whom rushed to the site.
Police from Bishramganj station arrived soon after receiving the complaint and have launched an investigation. Locals noted that this is the first recorded theft in the village and attributed the incident to the absence of a boundary wall or security gate around the office premises.
Authorities are currently assessing the damages and gathering evidence. Security measures for the complex are expected to be reviewed following the incident.
