Agartala, 20th February 2026  A one-day awareness and training program for farmers was organized this afternoon at Baragul Gram Panchayat under Dharmanagar subdivision, initiated by the Panisagar Agriculture Development Centre in North Tripura district. The program focused on ensuring safety during agricultural work, proper use of modern equipment, and boosting productivity.

In an exclusive interview, Dr. Soumendra Kumar, Senior Scientist at the North District Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), explained that the use of modern machinery and chemical inputs in farming has increased significantly. However, due to limited knowledge and lack of safety measures, farmers often face health risks. “This training camp was arranged to address those concerns,” he said.

During the session, farmers were guided on selecting the right tools for specific tasks, safe handling of equipment, and using protective kits to avoid health hazards.

At the end of the program, each farmer received a safety kit containing gloves, masks, protective eyewear, and other essential items. Experts from the government-approved “In India” organization also conducted hands-on demonstrations, giving farmers practical exposure to modern techniques.

The event was inaugurated by social worker Kajal Das, along with Birendra Das (State Coordinator, Farmers’ Club), Dr. Debasish Das (Scientist, Hill India, Kolkata), Dr. Tusi Chakma (KVC, Agartala), and Mihir Ranjan Nath, Chairman of Kadamtala Panchayat Samiti, among other guests.

Speakers emphasized that while modern farming methods aim to increase production, farmers’ health and safety must remain a priority. They noted that such training programs will raise awareness and help ensure safer agricultural practices in the future.

Local farmers expressed enthusiasm, saying that receiving both practical training and protective gear has given them new confidence in their work.
