Agartala, 17th March 2025: The Animal Resources Development department organized a one-day block-level livestock fair and exhibition under the National Livestock Mission across 20 block areas of the state. Today, the event was hosted at the Golaghati Panchayat ground for Bishalgarh Block.
The fair was inaugurated by MLA Manab Debbarma with MLA Sushanta Deb as the chief guest. They were accompanied by Bishalgarh Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Atushi Das, Agriculture Standing Committee President Shankar Saha, Zilla Parishad Member Sumitra Das, Panchayat Samiti Member Rabindra Datta, social worker Narayan Debnath and Golaghati Gram Panchayat Pradhan Pushparani Roy. The department’s Deputy Director Dr. Amal Majumdar was also present while the welcome address was delivered by Dr. Kalyan Roy, the department’s Assistant Director. The inauguration ceremony began with traditional lamp lighting, followed by an opening song performed by Dr. Kalyan Roy.
Farmers from the area participated in the fair showcasing a variety of livestock, including cows, goats, dogs, roosters and ducks. Various stalls were set up by the department to educate farmers about government schemes and provide vaccines and medicines for their animals.
MLA Manab Debbarma highlighted the historical significance of rearing domestic animals, stating, “Earlier, every household had domesticated animals, which not only provided milk for the family but also manure for farming. Though the number of livestock farmers has decreased over the years, the government is actively encouraging them to take up animal husbandry to become economically self-reliant.”
The event concluded with the distribution of awards to participating livestock farmers in various categories, marking the fair as a successful initiative to promote livestock farming in the sub-division.
