Agartala, 29th May 2026: A man was arrested by Tripura Police for allegedly possessing cannabis worth around Rs 9 lakh during a late-night checking operation at Dharmanagar railway station in North Tripura.
Police said the operation was carried out on Friday night following a tip-off about a person transporting narcotics through the railway station. Acting swiftly, a police team reached the spot and detained the suspect for questioning. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Mukulendu Das said that regular checking operations are conducted at the railway station whenever trains depart from Dharmanagar. During interrogation, the detained individual admitted to carrying cannabis, following which police recovered nearly 19 kilograms of the contraband from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Swapan Nath (35). During preliminary investigation, he reportedly informed police that he had procured the cannabis from Mohanpur in West Tripura district before arriving in Dharmanagar. According to police, the seized cannabis has an estimated black market value of approximately Rs 9 lakh. A case has been registered and further investigation into the matter is underway.
