One held with cannabis worth rupees crore at Panisagar

Agartala: August 20. Tripura Police today seized huge cache of cannabis from a truck and arrested one person from Panisagar sub-division under Tripura’s North district that shares interstate border with Assam and Mizoram. Sources said that today the Officer-in charge of Panisagar police station Bibhas Ranjan Das along with other police personnel were searching vehicle on the Assam-Agartala national highway acting on a tip off. Meanwhile a truck was approaching from Agartala which was loaded with tea and papad and was approaching towards Assam.

 When the truck stopped, police suspiciously searched the vehicle and seized more than 1677 kgs of cannabis. The police immediately arrested Ashok Das (37) who is a resident of Kakraban under Udaipur sub-division of Tripura’s Gomati district. Police sources said that during preliminary interrogation, the driver has revealed that he has loaded this cannabis from Sidhai Mohanpur in West district of Tripura for Uttar Pradesh. Later, in the presence Panisagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sauvik Dey, the cannabis was taken down from the vehicle.
