One held with cough syrup in Churaibari

Agartala: September 16. Tripura police today arrested one truck driver at Churaibari with banned cough syrups after he mistakenly entered with this contraband in the state and was returning back to Silchar in Assam. The driver said that when he wanted to drop the contraband items at Silchar, he mistakenly took them to Agartala.

From there, while returning back to Silchar again, the lorry loaded with the syrup was arrested by the Tripura police at Churaibari check post. The sources further informed that the container vehicle bearing number AS01MC-8580 took these cough syrups to Agartala along with other goods from outside the state. As a result, the driver was caught by the police while leaving Tripura. Inspector Ajit Chakma said that while conducting a search they have seized ten cartons contain a total of 1,000 bottles of cough syrup, the black market value of which is five lakh rupees. At present, the police arrested the driver and produced him before the court. The driver was identified as Jayakrishna Malakar (38) a resident of Misantila village of Dharmanagar in North Tripura district.
