One held with drugs, cash worth Rs 8 lakh

Agartala, 12th March 2024 :   In a decisive crackdown on the escalating drug menace in Tripura, the Tripura Police of Amtali police station carried out a successful raid last night based on secret information, uncovering a significant stash of brown sugar and apprehending a notorious drug dealer.

Acting on confidential intel, police officials targeted the residence of Sumon Sarkar in the Fultali area under the jurisdiction of Amtali police station. The raid, conducted under the cover of darkness, proved to be a pivotal operation in the ongoing battle against the increasing addiction crisis in the region.

During the operation, the police discovered and seized a substantial quantity of brown sugar, valued at an estimated Rs 2 lakh 15 thousand. Additionally, a significant sum of cash, totaling Rs 8 lakh, was confiscated from the premises. The haul represents a major blow to the illicit drug trade in the area.

Sumon Sarkar, identified as a key player in the local drug trafficking network, was apprehended by the police and subsequently taken into custody. His arrest is expected to disrupt the distribution network and curtail the influence of drug peddlers in the region.

Speaking on the operation, a police official stated, “This successful raid is a testament to our commitment to combating the rising tide of addiction in Tripura. We will continue to act on intelligence and employ every available resource to dismantle these illicit networks and bring those responsible to justice.”
