One-week workshop on “Innovative Explorations: Real Life Science & Engineering” for school students begins at NIT Agartala

Agartala, 16th June 2025:   In a pioneering initiative, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Agartala inaugurated a one-week workshop on June 16, 2025, exclusively for school students of classes 8 to 10. The workshop is being hosted at the NIT Agartala complex and is aimed at sparking curiosity and fostering interest in science and technology among young minds.

Students from various schools including Shishu Bihar School, Umakanta English Medium School, Maharani Tulsibati HS School and Saheed Kshudiram Vidya Bhavan HS School enthusiastically participated in this first-of-its-kind program, designed and proposed by Professor S.K. Patra, Director of NIT Agartala.

The inaugural session witnessed the gracious presence of Professor Rajib Saha, Dean (Academics), along with program coordinators Dr. Manish Pal and Dr. Dipankar Sarkar.

Dr. Manish Pal, while addressing the gathering, elaborated on the core objective of the workshop — to inspire and motivate school students towards the rapidly evolving fields of science and technology. He emphasized the importance of hands-on experiences in enhancing classroom learning, and the necessity to develop scientific temperament at an early stage.

Throughout the week, students will be introduced to various live experiments related to subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Additionally, they will be taken on guided tours of key departments including Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, BioEngineering, Chemical Engineering and Civil Engineering. A special visit to the Central Library is also scheduled, which will give students insight into the academic life and culture of a premier national institute.

The program also underscores the importance of students’ physical and mental well-being, aiming to provide a refreshing academic break from their routine studies while enriching their knowledge and exposure.

 Dr. Pal also informed that a special segment in the program will feature educational cinema, through which students can learn about various scientific concepts, ethics, and related issues.Yoga and Pranayamhave also been included in the workshop to promote the physical and mental well-being of the students.

Besides Dr. Manish Pal extended his gratitude to Professor S.K. Patra, Director, NIT Agartala for his guidance and financial support.

During the inaugural program, Professor Rajib Saha, Dean (Academics), NITA, Dr. Suman Deb, Assistant Professor, NITA and Dr. AparnaGanguly, Teacher, Umakanta English Medium School  expressed confidence that such initiatives will successfully motivate students to pursue academics with greater enthusiasm and curiosity.

The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Dipankar Sarkar thanked Nripendra Chandra Sharma, Director, School Education, Government of Tripura, Siddartha Sankar Roy, OSD School Education, Government of Tripura  along with the Principals, Headmasters, Headmistresses, and other school authorities for their support in making the event a success.

Dr. Sarkar has also expressed his gratitude to all the resource persons of NIT Agartala who has come forward to take classes during the workshop, both in the classroom and in the laboratory.” This one-week workshop is expected to be a milestone in promoting scientific learning among school students and marks a significant outreach effort by NIT Agartala.
