Agartala, 8th August 2024:  The ongoing state elections have seen a one-sided contest with the opposition failing to field any candidates. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured an unopposed victory in 71% of the seats.

Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced that only 96 Zilla Parishad seats are being contested. He noted the absence of any significant campaign efforts from the opposition in recent days, attributing the peaceful and festive voting atmosphere to this lack of competition.

Chowdhury highlighted the establishment of good governance in the panchayat areas over the past five years, stating that people have benefited from this stability. He expressed confidence that the BJP would continue to manage the Panchayat for the next five years, predicting a clean sweep in the 96 seats of the eight Zilla Parishads once results are announced on August 12.

In a separate statement, Chowdhury condemned recent incidents in Bangladesh, emphasizing that such occurrences are unacceptable in a democratic state.
