Opposition Slams Tripura Government Over Law and Order Failure, Blames CM for Spiralling Violence

Agartala, 9th June 2025:  The Leader of the Opposition, Jitendra Chaudhury, today launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led government in Tripura, accusing Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha of presiding over a complete collapse f law and order in the state.

Chaudhury’s remarks followed a violent incident in the Masjid Patti area on Sunday night, where unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked the residence of Shahjahan Islam, a youth leader of the Congress, after he reportedly made derogatory comments about the Chief Minister.

Speaking to reporters, Chaudhury condemned the attack, calling it an orchestrated attempt to silence opposition voices. “Miscreants stormed Shahjahan Islam’s house, vandalized property, and physically assaulted his family members. This was not just an act of hooliganism—it was a politically motivated assault aimed at intimidating critics of the Chief Minister,” he said.

Senior Congress leaders, including MLA Sudip Roy Barman and Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee President Ashish Kumar Saha, rushed to the spot following the incident. Chaudhury alleged that an attempt was made to attack the Congress delegation as well.

“The manner in which these attacks are being carried out is nothing short of barbaric,” Chaudhury said, warning that such incidents reflect a dangerous trend under the current regime.

The veteran CPI(M) leader claimed that the state government has consistently turned a blind eye to politically motivated violence. “There is no rule of law in Tripura. Violence and personal attacks have become routine, while the administration remains inactive,” he said.

He also questioned the double standards in dealing with dissent. “If making personal remarks is deemed a crime, why are BJP leaders repeatedly making derogatory comments about opposition leaders without any action being taken against them?” he asked. Chaudhury further accused the ruling BJP of using fear and violence as a political tool. “The government is not just failing to maintain peace—it is using terror to retain power,” he alleged.
