Agartala, 11th January 2026: A severe road accident left more than 15 people critically injured on Sunday evening while returning from a picnic. The tragic incident occurred near Chechurimai area under Bishramganja police station on the national highway, involving a head-on collision between a Max vehicle and a Swift car.

The injured were rushed to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital, and seeing their critical condition, they were immediately referred to GB Hospital for advanced treatment.

According to reports, a family along with relatives from Sonamura had rented a Max vehicle to go on a picnic to Khumulwng. There were 15 passengers in the car, including children. After completing the picnic, they started returning home to Sonamura in the evening.

Eyewitnesses said the Max driver was driving at high speed from the beginning, and the passengers repeatedly asked him to slow down. An argument broke out between the driver and passengers while traveling from Agartala. Just after passing Charilam Bazar and reaching Chechurimai, the vehicle collided head-on with a Swift car coming from Udaipur.

The picnic-goers alleged that the driver deliberately caused the accident. The driver fled the scene immediately after the collision. The injured passengers reportedly shouted that the driver intentionally caused the disaster.

Hospital authorities confirmed that none of the passengers were under the influence of alcohol. The group included children and elderly family members. According to the passengers, the tragic accident was primarily caused by the driver’s reckless speed, which escalated the argument and led to this deliberate act.
