Over 43,000 families to benefit from livestock rearing facilities in 2023-24 FY: Sudhangshu Das

Agartala, 1st March 2024:   The Tripura government has announced its plan to provide facilities to 43,905 families across the state to rear ducks, chickens and pigs in the financial year 2023-24, as part of its efforts to achieve financial self-reliance in the animal resource development sector.

The Animal Resource Development (ARD) minister Sudhangshu Das revealed this information in a written reply to the query raised by leader of opposition Animesh Debbarma on the floor of the Assembly’s budget session on Friday.

According to Das, the ARD department has planned to provide facilities to 10,840 families to rear ducks, 32,520 families to rear chickens and 545 families to rear pigs in the next financial year. He also said that there is a plan to support a total of 200 families for pig rearing through the “Interest Subsidy Scheme for Piggery” project.

Das further informed that as on 31st December 2023, 21,076 families/persons of the ARD department have been given ducks, chickens and pigs with a total monetary value of Rs.2,89,91,600.

In another reply to the query of TIPRA Motha MLA Animesh Debbarma, the ARD minister said that the department had submitted utilization certificates (UCs) of Rs 3314.41436 lakhs for the financial years 2021-22 and 2022-23 to the central government.

He also listed the new projects of the ARD department during the last two financial years, which include: Project for Duck Breeding Farm; Mukhyamantri Swanirbhar Parivar Yojana scheme; NLFT (SD) Scheme (ST Welfare); PM-AJAY Scheme (SC Welfare); Mobile Veterinary Unit (ESVHD-MVU); Semen Processing Project in Artificial Breeding of Pigs under Innovative Pig Development Project for North East (IPDPNE); and Backyard Duck Rearing Project (SC Welfare).

Das added that the total amount of money spent by the ARD department till 31st December, 2023 for implementing the said projects is Rs.3798.96509 Lakhs.
