Agartala, 14th November 2023: The West District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar said that a substantial amount of Rs 26 crore 61 lakh has been expended in the last six years for the distribution of relief materials in the disaster management sector in the West District.
He said during the challenging period of the Covid-19 pandemic, a sum of Rs 7. 72 crore was allocated to this sector.
Dr. Kumar emphasized the district administration’s commitment to regular training for individuals engaged in disaster management.
“Since the fiscal year 2018-19, approximately 15 thousand individuals affected by various disasters have been recipients of relief items. Among them, around 9,000 people received assistance for house damage”, he said.
Assuring the community of the district’s preparedness for any calamity, Dr. Vishal Kumar highlighted the possession of high-quality support materials by the district administration. Collaborative programs with various departments related to disaster management are actively underway to strengthen the overall response capacity.
To mitigate potential risks, the District Magistrate urged citizens to adhere to government norms while constructing houses. He urged the public to promptly inform the district administration in the event of any calamity. A helpline (0381 232 1077), toll-free, has been established for immediate assistance, and Dr. Kumar encouraged individuals to utilize this resource.
