Agartala, 5th August 2025: A new chapter in agricultural support took place this morning at Battala field under the Satchand Agriculture Sub-Division, as the government-backed paddy procurement drive commenced amid scenes of optimism and high farmer turnout.
The initiative led jointly by the Food and Agriculture Departments sets a support price of Rs 23 per kilogram for paddy. Originally targeting the purchase of 900 metric tons, the Battala center witnessed a surge in registrations with over 1,200 metric tons already logged signaling robust crop yields, agricultural enthusiasm and rising trust in state mechanisms.
Superintendent Manohar Das overseeing the procurement stated: “This project is being implemented with the initiative of the Food Department in collaboration with the Agriculture Department. We hope that it will be possible to purchase about one thousand metric tons of paddy at the government level. This will benefit the farmers by getting a fair price and will encourage them further in the future.”
The atmosphere at the field reflected more than just agricultural transactions. Trucks loaded with freshly harvested paddy, measuring machines lining the grounds, and farmers patiently queuing with evident satisfaction painted a picture of collective progress. Many described the mood as “festive,” underscoring the growing empowerment of farmers in Tripura’s southern region.
