Agartala, 7th November 2025: In a landmark achievement for neurological care in Tripura, the Neurology Department of GBP Hospital has successfully performed a life-saving aneurysm coiling procedure, offering a new lease on life to a 54-year-old resident of Banamalipur, Agartala.

The breakthrough was made possible through the concerted efforts of Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, Principal of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) Prof. (Dr.) Anup Saha, and GBP Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Shankar Chakraborty. Their leadership has helped establish a new benchmark in the state’s public healthcare system.

The patient was initially admitted to GBP Hospital on September 21, 2025, after suffering a stroke. Following preliminary treatment, he was temporarily discharged. However, further complications led to an MRI and MR angiography on October 22, which revealed a cerebral aneurysm, a potentially fatal bulge in a brain artery.

Recognizing the urgency, the patient was readmitted to the Neurology Department on November 3. A team led by renowned neurologist, neuro-interventionist, and stroke specialist Dr. Abir Lal Nath diagnosed the condition and recommended Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) followed by aneurysm coiling—a minimally invasive procedure to prevent rupture.

Dr. Nath assured the patient’s family that the entire procedure would be conducted free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Trusting the medical team, the family gave immediate consent.

On November 5, a high-stakes three-hour surgery was performed by Dr. Nath, assisted by neurologist Dr. Arpan Mitra and anesthetist Dr. Manimoy Debbarma. The operation was supported by a dedicated team including nursing officers Pranakrishna Deb, Titiksha Majumdar, Debabrata Debnath, and Manas Dutta, as well as cath lab technicians Sanjay Ghosh and Arijit Pal.

The procedure was a resounding success, with the patient now on the path to recovery. The medical team’s swift diagnosis, expert execution, and coordinated care were instrumental in saving the patient’s life.

The broader team also included Dr. Abhijit Acharya, Dr. Supratim Saha, Dr. Subhrajit Das, Dr. Poulomi Nag, Dr. Arkaprava Roy Chowdhury, and nursing officers Sebika Dutta, Rozy Chakraborty, Surajit Sutradhar, Arnika Sinha, and Abul Hossain.

Expressing heartfelt gratitude, the patient’s family thanked Dr. Abir Lal Nath and the entire medical team for their tireless efforts and compassionate care. This case not only highlights the growing capabilities of GBP Hospital but also exemplifies the transformative impact of accessible, advanced healthcare in the state.
