Agartala, 11th August 2024:   A patient’s social media post has drawn significant attention to alleged malpractice by a local doctor. A resident of Kambal Tirla area, Dasda in the Kanchanpur subdivision Bikash Das has accused Dr Prasanna Das of extorting large sums of money from patients under the guise of treatment.

Bikash claimed that he sought treatment from Dr. Prasanna Das to manage his blood sugar levels, initially paying a total of Rs 16,000 for consultations. However, despite 15 days of treatment, Bikash Das reported no improvement in his condition. Frustrated, he attempted to document his experience by making a video, which he later posted on Facebook.

In his video, Bikash alleged, “I was forced to continue the treatment despite no signs of improvement. When I confronted Dr. Prasanna Das about the lack of progress, he refused to continue my treatment and dismissed me.”

According to Bikash Das, the total cost of the treatment amounted to approximately Rs 22,000. He further claimed that his attempts to contact Dr. Prasanna Das over the phone were unsuccessful stating, “For two months, I tried to reach Dr. Das, but he never responded to my calls.”

Feeling helpless, Bikash Das turned to local journalists to amplify his concerns. He accused Dr. Prasanna Das of using deceptive practices, including posting misleading advertisements on Facebook. “After 15 days of treatment, Dr. Das made a video and uploaded it on his Facebook page, falsely advertising successful treatment outcomes,” Bikash said.

The allegations have sparked outrage among the local community, with many expressing their concerns about the doctor’s practices. Dr. Prasanna Das’s clinic, located near Manu, Chailengta Hospital has come under scrutiny as more patients come forward with similar complaints.

The Health department has reportedly taken note of the allegations and is expected to launch an investigation into the matter. This incident highlights the growing role of social media in holding medical professionals accountable and ensuring patient rights are protected.
