Agartala, 29th January 2024:   A group of pavement cloth traders at Chailengta market staged a road blockade on Monday, protesting against the administration’s decision to evict them without providing an alternative place for their business. The blockade caused severe traffic congestion and inconvenience to the commuters.

The traders claimed that they have been selling clothes on the pavement for a long time and they depend on this source of income. However, they were informed by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate this morning that they cannot dig holes in the field and they have to vacate the area immediately.

The traders said that they were forced to join the blockade as they had no other option. They demanded that the administration should arrange an alternative place for them before evicting them from the pavement. They also threatened to continue their agitation until their demands are met.
