Agartala, 26th June 2025: The Master Para locality continues to reel under the grip of a jaundice outbreak, allegedly linked to the newly supplied purified drinking water connection provided by the Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) department.
The situation drew political attention today as Pradesh Congress President Asish Kumar Saha visited the affected area. During his visit, Saha met with several residents and patients, going door to door to understand the extent of the crisis firsthand.
Residents have reportedly alleged that the jaundice outbreak began after they consumed water from the new supply. According to locals, rainwater contaminated the pipeline, resulting in dirty water flowing through household taps. Many of the afflicted individuals blamed the poor quality of the so-called “purified” supply.
Reacting to the complaints, Saha criticized the administration for what he termed a failure in ensuring clean drinking water during the critical monsoon period. “The outbreak is a direct result of negligence. The contaminated supply has compromised public health,” he said, urging authorities to act swiftly.
The Health Department caught off-guard by the scale of the outbreak has deployed ASHA workers for household-level surveys and preliminary health check-ups. Officials confirmed that inquiries are underway to assess the source and spread of the disease.
Saha has demanded that the government provide an immediate and genuinely purified water supply to prevent further deterioration of public health in the area.
