Peace Rally in Jampui Hills demanding Development, urges to solve water, electricity and road issue

Agartala, 21st November 2023 :   The Mizo Convention Youth Wing Jampui Hills on Tuesday launched a peace rally demanding 7 charters point of demands including providing sufficient water supply, upgradation of health centers and electricity connection.

Mizo Convention Youth Wing Jampui, the prime youth organisation of Jampui Hills community have also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha through Block Development Officer (BDO).

In the memorandum they have demanded to set up of Fire Station as they have to depend on the service of Kanchanpur Fire Station in North District, a distant of about an hour reach.

They have also demanded allocating Aadhaar Cell in Jampui Hills RD Block. “Jampui Primary Health Care, the major public health centre has been catering the medical needs of Jampui Hills community and its surroundings for many years.  However, there has been functional limit due to insufficient infrastructures, for instance, non-availability of various medical tests, overcapacity, lack of specialized treatment, inadequate supplies, etc. Many patients have to reach the nearest Community health

center which is more than 30 km away to have medical tests and treatments of cases that PHC does not offer. It is high time that Jampui PHC should be upgraded to Community Health Carestatus with improved facilities to enable people access better medical service in contrast to burdens many patients are enduring” it reads.

The People also demanded to provide sufficient water supply and construction of water project serving Jampui Hills as many villages of Jampui Hills experience cease of water supply for years, while the other few villages having functional connections receive an insufficient quantity.

The Mizo Convention Youth Wing  also demanded immediate action of NH-44A.

At last they have demanded settlement of areca nut market crisis which is the cash crop grown in Jampui hills.  “In the preceding years, traders from Assam came and bought the commodity in series of genial negotiation, but for this year, no suitable traders turn up due to unspecific reasons. The implication of this financial stress is a serious matter of concern for the society, and Mizo Convention Youth Wing implores Government intervention into this crisis, and to  establish institutional mechanism for arecanut trading system for the prospects of areca nut market in the future.  Sir, we hope that you would kindly take into account our entreaties for the development of Jampui Hills displayed in Peace Rally organized today”,it added.
