Agartala, 9th July 2025:  The people of Tripura have outrightly rejected the nationwide bandh called by 10 central trade unions, claimed BJP state secretary Tapas Majumdar today. Addressing a press conference at the state BJP headquarters, Majumdar said the strike had no impact in Tripura and public life continued as usual.

“The people of the state have thwarted the strike. Schools, colleges, banks, and government offices functioned normally. There was no report of any major disruption or untoward incident,” Majumdar told reporters. According to him, while a few stray attempts were made to create disturbances in isolated areas, the situation was quickly brought under control. “People no longer accept the outdated politics of these trade unions. Their influence is diminishing day by day in Tripura,” he said.

Taking a swipe at the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Majumdar said, “It’s laughable that CITU leaders are claiming the bandh was successful in Tripura. The ground reality tells a completely different story.”He alleged that the bandh was a desperate attempt by Left-affiliated organisations to hamper the pace of development brought in by the BJP-led government. “Since the BJP came to power in Tripura, numerous development projects have been implemented. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched welfare schemes targeting the poor and backward sections across the country, including Tripura. The bandh was an attempt to obstruct this progress,” Majumdar added. The 24-hour general strike was called by trade unions to protest against various central government policies, but in Tripura, it found little resonance.
