Agartala, 2nd August 2025: Widespread public suffering continues across the Kathalia block area as deteriorating rural roads remain unrepaired for years, worsening further during the monsoon season. From small vehicle operators to daily pedestrians, commuters are forced to navigate treacherous pathways under extreme hardship.
Despite repeated appeals made to local MLAs and elected representatives at all levels of the three-tier panchayat system, residents say no tangible steps have been taken to address the crisis. Allegations of inaction have also surfaced against the Public Works Department (PWD), whose role in the region is described by locals as “negligible.” Even local panchayats have remained passive, prompting rising frustration.
There is growing concern that spontaneous road blockades may erupt in protest, particularly near critical routes. In the ADC villages of the Dhanpur assembly constituency, road conditions are especially severe, with dense forest flanking narrow and crumbling paths that appear completely abandoned.
One such stretch- the one-way road connecting Kathalia to Manai Pathar shows signs of landslides and accumulated soil, yet no action has been taken to clear debris. Similar deterioration can be seen along the Manaipathar Bazar–Tilabari–Thali Bari Bazar corridor, where walking has become perilous and vehicular movement is hazardous.
Residents warn that the absence of guardianship over these roads is not just a seasonal inconvenience, but a long-standing issue that demands immediate administrative attention. Calls for accountability and urgent restoration efforts are growing louder across the block.
