Photo-journalist attacked in city, four arrested

Agartala, 8th December 2025:  Four assailants launched a deadly attack on Sumit Kumar Singh, a photo-journalist with Agartala TV and an associate member of the Agartala Press Club last night at around 11 PM. The incident took place at Colonel Chowmuhani in the heart of the capital while Singh was returning home after office work.

Locals said that the attackers threatened to kill him and forcibly snatched his gold chain and wallet. Singh narrowly escaped with his life and later received first aid at IGM Hospital with the help of colleagues.

West Agartala Police Station staff acted swiftly, arresting all four accused the same night.

The Agartala Press Club has strongly condemned the incident and demanded strict legal action against those involved.

Ramakanata Dey, Secretary of the Agartala Press Club informed this in a press communiqué today.

Meanwhile, a group of senior journalists and photo-journalists led by Agartala Press Club President Pranab Sarkar today met with Additional SP (Urban) of West Tripura district and demanded for stringent punishment of the accused persons.
