Agartala, 12th February 2026: The ‘Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan’ (PMSMA) was successfully observed on February 10 last at the conference hall of Jalebasa Primary Health Centre (PHC) in North Tripura district, with a special focus on providing quality antenatal healthcare services to expectant mothers.
As part of the special outreach camp, a total of 32 pregnant women underwent comprehensive health check-ups and screening. Health officials reported that none of the beneficiaries required referral to higher medical centres, as no critical complications were detected during the examinations.
Dr. Pooja Debnath, a senior medical officer at Jalebasa Community Health Centre (CHC), conducted the clinical assessments with support from the health team. The screening process included blood pressure monitoring, weight measurement and essential laboratory investigations. Free essential medicines were also distributed among the beneficiaries.
In addition to clinical services, the programme emphasized awareness generation and nutritional counselling. Dr. Debnath addressed the mothers on the importance of balanced nutrition, prevention of anaemia and adherence to proper dietary practices during pregnancy. She highlighted the critical role of iron and folic acid supplementation and maintaining personal hygiene for maternal well-being.
Under government support initiatives, nutritious ‘Food Baskets’ were distributed free of cost to all attending pregnant women to strengthen maternal nutrition and promote safe pregnancy outcomes.
The programme witnessed coordinated efforts from healthcare personnel, including one Staff Nurse, one Multipurpose Supervisor, two Multipurpose Workers (MPWs) and ten ASHA workers, ensuring the smooth conduct of the camp.
Officials of Jalebasa Health Centre stated that the primary objective of the PMSMA campaign is to ensure safe institutional delivery for every pregnant mother and work towards reducing maternal mortality to zero. The initiative received a positive response from local beneficiaries and contributed to enhancing maternal health awareness in the area.
