Agartala, 20th January 2026: The East Agartala Police have achieved significant success in two separate theft cases, recovering stolen gold ornaments and other valuables and arresting three accused persons.
According to police sources, a theft took place at the residence of Moumita Debbarma, a resident of the Palace Compound area near Agartala Town Hall, yesterday. The thieves broke into the house and fled with several valuable items, including a table fan and other household articles. Following a written complaint lodged at the police station, investigators examined CCTV footage from the area and identified the suspect. Acting swiftly, the police arrested Suraj Debbarma from the Katakhal area. He has been produced before the court with a request for two days of police remand.
In another separate operation, police arrested two thieves in connection with the theft of gold ornaments from a house in the Nayanmura Laddu Choumuhani area of Agartala. During the investigation, it was revealed that painting work was underway at the victim’s residence at the time of the theft. The accused painters allegedly stole the gold ornaments and escaped. Based on this information, police conducted a raid and recovered the stolen gold ornaments while arresting the two accused.
Additionally, a gold trader allegedly involved in the purchase and sale of the stolen ornaments has also been detained, police said.
The police stated that all the arrested persons are being interrogated, and investigations are ongoing to determine whether more individuals are involved in the thefts. Following these successful operations, a sense of relief has spread among residents of the affected areas.
