The accused have been identified as Tadet and Liton Das alias Nantu, who is a notorious cow mafia from Ramnagar area under Panisagar police station.

According to the police, the duo was transporting foreign cattle buffaloes from Mizoram to Bangladesh via Tripura in a Bolero car. The police intercepted the car and seized the buffaloes. During interrogation, the accused revealed that they were working for Liton Das alias Nantu, who is the kingpin of the smuggling racket. Nantu has been evading arrest for the past few days and has allegedly bribed some officials to facilitate his illegal business.
