Agartala, July 30, 2023: In a bid to tackle the issue of international illegal trafficking, the Chelikhola outpost of the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) is conducting a thorough operation during the dark hours in Naka Point, Bishalgarh. However, the operation turned grim as one youth was injured during a confrontation with the CRPF personnel, and he is currently under medical care at the GB Hospital.

According to reports, the Naka Point has become a notorious area for smuggling contraband items across the border into Bangladesh. The illegal items, brought in from neighbouring states, are then transported through various regions of Bishalgarh, including Boxanagar and Sonamura police stations.

In response to the escalating situation, the police, along with the CRPF personnel, have initiated a 24-hour checkpoint at the Melaghar and Bishalgarh areas. On Saturday night, siblings Pradip Nama and Rakesh Nama from Korimura in Charilam were on their way home on a motorcycle when they encountered the CRPF personnel at the Naka Point. Without helmets, the duo was asked to pay a fine of Rs 500 each.

As they objected to the demand, an altercation ensued, during which local youth joined the scene and staged a roadblock protest. The agitated youth vandalized the checkpoint, toppling barricades and drums placed on the road. After a while, the police managed to control the situation and dispersed the protesters peacefully.

Following the incident, the injured individuals were rescued by a large number of police officers present at the scene and were taken to Bishalgarh subdivisional hospital. Police and CRPF personnel claimed that the allegations of extortion were baseless and asserted that the illegal cross-border activities were causing severe losses to local businesses.

The incident has brought the locality’s security situation into sharp focus, leading to further tensions and protests by those who believe the authorities should take decisive action against the perpetrators involved in illegal trafficking. The police are currently investigating the matter to establish the truth behind the incident and restore order in the area.
